Festival of Aluva....Shivrathri

The celebration of Shivrathri in Aluva of Ernakulam district in Kerala is very famous. The Shivrathri festival is celebrated in the month of Kumbham in Malayalam calendar which falls in February-March. It is celebrated at the Shiv temple situated on the banks of Periyar river. The river bank is known as Aluva Manalpuram which means land with sand. Succeding the holy night of Shivrathri pilgrims offer 'Bali' (sacrifice) by observing fasting to their ancestors who are no more.

The stalls installed for purchasing, exhibition, eatables, information and education, adventure rides and shows for children and grownups are a great spot to spend with family and friends. The evenings are very much crowded. It will remain for about a month to entertain the people.
